Which cell phone company has the best reception in The Villages?
If you are moving to The Villages from a larger city, you might be surprised at the lack of cell phone signal you will get. Not only in the squares or on the golf course, but also in your home. Everyone is frustrated at some time about dropped calls or slow phone speed when using their cell phone here. Which company has the best signal? What can you do in your home to get a better signal without changing services? Keep reading for the answers.
Honestly, there is no single mobile service that has good coverage over the entire Villages area. Reports from both Verizon and AT&T customers report spotty service everywhere but particularly in the Fenney area south of the turnpike. The company that gets the most favorable reviews for cell service within The Villages is Xfinity Mobile. Since Xfinity is the most common cable and internet company in The Villages, you might want to bundle your cell phone with them as well. I am not promoting any service over another. I am just reporting my experience and experiences of others I've talked to. It can also be difficult to get good cell service inside your home in The Villages. Some ways to increase your cell signal include purchasing an in-home booster from your cell phone company and/or allowing wi-fi calling with your phone. Most phones will allow wi-fi calling and you can select it in your settings app.
I moved here with AT&T and I have decided to stay with them for the time being. Inside buildings around Sumter Landing, Brownwood Paddock, and at the Fenney Grill, I usually get one bar or no service. Inside our home, not using wi-fi, I have 1-2 bars. An AT&T booster would help but I have had good luck with going into my settings app and clicking ON for "wi-fi calling". My suggestion is to keep your cell service when you get here. Use it and see if you get a signal where you typically go. As far as cell phone offices, we have Verizon, AT&T offices and Xfinity offices in all three main "squares" areas.
